- What comes with a teishoku?
- A main dish plus rice, miso soup and small sides. In Nagoya the soup is usually akadashi — red soybean miso — which alone gives it a local accent.
- Can I get a rice refill?
- Many shops offer it free, but not all. It is usually written on the ticket machine or a sign on the wall — worth a look once you sit down.
- Is it comfortable to eat alone?
- Solo diners are the main audience at teishoku shops. Counters are standard, and lunchtime runs on people eating quickly and leaving.
